Quobba Blowholes campsite, 50 minutes (73km) North of Carnarvon, Western Australia.
A short drive from the Blowholes is the Quobba Campsite ($15 p/ night) and “natural aquarium”, a sheltered coral swimming spot behind the lookout and drop toilets. Last year this campsite was in the media spotlight for the disappearance of four year old Carnarvon local, Cleo Smith, who was abducted from the campsite but thankfully found alive two weeks later in Carnarvon.
When we were there the initial part of the camp was very full, caravans were packed in like sardines. We continued past this spot, past the old dishevelled shacks and further along the coast to a campsite on its own.
We had our own sandy track 50m to the water and there was space for a campfire which the boys think is pretty special and we love too. The water in front of our campsite was beautiful but it was too rough, deep and windy for our young family. If you return to the entrance the water in the aquarium near the lookout is much more sheltered and family friendly.
From this campsite you can drive to Quobba Station for a look around and enjoy multiple trips to the incredible blowholes, make sure you check them out at high tide, even better if it’s also a windy day!
